You went into business to make a profit so I know you’ll read this article with great interest. I’m going to give you a sure fire way to get more customers to accept your proposals. The technique that I will disclose has been mastered by some of the best retail chains in this country.
For example, I am a frequent visitor of our local book store. The retailer actually sends me coupons in my email box. A couple of weeks ago I received a coupon which gave me 30% off any item I wanted as long as I purchased it within the next three days. I didn’t have any book that I really needed, but at the risk of losing out on what I perceived to be a good deal, I purchased a book the next day.
What happened here? This business did an excellent job marketing and creating a sense of urgency. Not only did they announce a sale, but they did something that we can mimic to add more customers to our businesses. They put a time limit on the sale. This creates a sense of scarcity. The customer who was on the fence is all of a sudden motivated to do business.
The most profitable businesses in this nation utilize this technique. Sometimes you don’t have to recreate the wheel. Simply customize this technique to fit your business. A long time ago grocery stores would send out coupons to prospective customers advertising their best deals. They learned that the coupons that had an expiration date on them consistently out preformed the regular coupons. Why did this consistently occur? People thought that they were going to lose out on a potential deal.
Remember buying is an emotional process. If you want to sell more of your product or service you have to evoke some emotion in your prospective buyers. With a limited time offer your prospect knows that he could potentially lose out on a great offer. No one likes to lose.
Give this technique a try and see the difference it makes to your bottom line. Run a promotion on one of your products where they can save 40% if they purchase it within the next week. In order to get your customers emotionally engaged put a clock or timer on your website that shows that time is running out on the promotion. Though out the week remind them of the dead line. I’ll bet you will sell more product during that week than in prior weeks.
I know some of you are skeptical. That’s ok. You may believe that by lowering your price you will have less profit. This is a valid concern. However, if you truly have a good product or service you have gained trust and credibility in the eyes of your customer. You customers will likely spend more on your product and services in the coming months and years. You are on your way to creating customers for life.
